Victim killed in NAS Pensacola mass shooting ‘saved countless lives’ | WEAR

PENSACOLA, Fla. (WEAR) — Posts on social media have identified one of the victims killed during the mass shooting at Naval Air Station (NAS) Pensacola. Joshua Kaleb Watson, of Enterprise, Alabama, died after a shooter opened fire on base Friday morning. Two other victims were killed, plus the shooter, from the incident. Eight other people were hurt in the shooting.

Florida bill would require prescription for most sunscreens – al.com

A Florida lawmaker is proposing a measure that would require prescriptions for most sunscreens due to concerns the products are bad for the environment. Sen. Linda Stewart (D) said the bill is designed to protect coral reefs and fisheries in the state. Specifically, it would require a doctor to write a prescription for sunscreens containing the chemicals oxybenzone and octinoxate. Sunscreens not containing those ingredients would continue to be available over-the-counter, she said.

Police chase across state lines for wanted fugitive ends in crash on Lillian Highway – WKRG News 5

According to the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office, the chase began in Baldwin County, Alabama. Several agencies were involved in the chase, including Elberta Police, Foley Police, the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office, and the U.S. Marshal’s were chasing a wanted fugitive out of Escambia County.

List of ‘dirty’ beaches due to fecal bacteria includes 10 in Alabama, Florida – al.com

A sampling of 25 beach sites in Alabama showed 21 were potentially unsafe due to bacteria levels on at least one day in 2018, according to an environmental think tank. The Environment America Research and Policy Center analysis looked at 2,627 beaches across the U.S. According to the study, more than half of all those tested were potentially unsafe for swimming on at least one day 2018. Thirteen percent of tested sites posted elevated bacteria counts for at least 25 days.

Florida man dies after eating raw oysters tainted with ‘flesh-eating’ bacteria – al.com

A 71-year-old Florida man died after eating raw oysters contaminated with a flesh eating bacteria. The man ate oysters contaminated with Vibrio Vulnificus on July 8 and died two days later, the Florida Department of Public Health said. The name of the man or the restaurant where he ate were not released.

Tennessee man dies from flesh-eating bacteria 48 hours after beach trip | WPMI

The Memphis man's family said they knew some bacteria can infect through open wounds and cuts, but they had no idea his compromised immune system may have put him at risk too. Less than 12 hours after visiting Destin Beach in Florida, Cheryl Wiygul said her father started feeling ill. Once the family returned to Memphis, a large black sore developed on his back and red bumps showed up on his arms and legs.
