December 5, 2018 – Orange Beach, AL (OBA®) – The Alabama/Florida Gulf Coast knows how to throw a party no matter what time of year it is. But the upcoming holiday season will offer oodles of options for family fun as well as ways to whoop it up at midnight at New Year’s Eve.

And the most iconic hotspots on the coast will be right in the thick of it with LuLu’s at Homeport Marina providing two annual kids celebrations and the Flora-Bama providing two venues for fun – including fireworks at one. And the Perdido Beach Resort will bring back its annual celebration with several dining and partying options at the sprawling Gulf front venue.

Several flagship restaurants are offering special menus and buffets including the wildly popular Cosmo’s, Cobalt and GT’s By The Bay. Live Bait will have parties roaring in its main restaurant as well as in the Dance Club at Live Bait.

If you don’t want to stay out all night head to Tacky Jacks Gulf Shores with its wacky Bushwacker drop at 8 p.m. It’s one of several unique drops on the coast for the holiday. Others include a mullet, beach balls and a marlin at local venues.

Start off by making the kids happy with one of the most fun and unique beachball drop at LuLu’s Noon Year’s Eve  celebration. Doors open at 10 a.m. and activities include free family fun with arts & crafts, sandcastle building contest, “safe” fireworks, balloon artists, face painting and live music from the Red Clay Strays.

You can also bring the kids by on Dec. 8 to celebrate the legend of Billy Claus. In addition to children telling their Christmas wishes to Billy to pass along to his brother Santa, there will be kids arts and crafts activities and a reading of “Billy Claus and the Spirit of Christmas” children’s book, written by Lucy Buffett.


Come don your New Year’s Eve hats, tiaras and other party favors including in the price of your ticket. It’s $40 for those 21 and older, $50 for 18-20-year-olds. You can get tickets here.

Doors open at 6 p.m. and your ticket includes access to the buffet under the tent in the Oyster Bar. On the menu are raw oysters, peel-and-eat shrimp, low country boil, steak skewers, coconut shrimp, vegetable medley, island rice and Greek Feta pasta.

The breakfast buffet will start at midnight and include scrambled eggs, chicken and waffles, bacon, biscuits and gravy, sausage and pork sliders. Champagne will be available 11 p.m.-midnight which will be ushered in with fireworks. The celebration includes surprise giveaways throughout the night.

Midnight will be rung in with a mullet drop with Flora-Bama personality Big Earl aka Jack Robertson at Ole River Grill. Tickets are $30 in advance or $35 on Dec. 31. Get tickets online here. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Manna Food Pantry

The fun starts with New Year’s Eve hats, tiaras and other party favors at 6 p.m. There will be live music and champagne will be given out from 11:30-midnight downstairs.

On the dinner buffet from 7-10 p.m. upstairs will include beef tips, mashed potatoes, shrimp and grits and a taco bar. The Hangover Cure Buffet will start at midnight with sriracha chicken bites, corn dogs, nachos and pizza rolls.


Ring in the New Year without staying out all night as Tacky Jack’s Gulf Shores will host its Annual New Year’s Eve Bushwacker Drop for those wanting an earlier celebration to bring in 2019. The party starts at 6 p.m., with live music by the Barstool Surfers. Bushwacker and balloon prize drops are scheduled at 8 p.m. Cost is $25 per person which includes a buffet and drink specials will be available. RSVP reservations to (251) 948-8881.

The Live Bait party includes a dinner buffet, live music, party favors and champagne at $75 per couple, $40 for singles or $15 to just enjoy the party.

The buffet will come with a prime rib carving station, steamed shrimp, grilled fish, blackened chicken, scalloped potatoes, mixed vegetables, broccoli casserole, rice pilaf and oven-roasted potato medley. It will be open from 7-8:30 p.m. with the Legend Band kicking off afterward.

Admission includes a reserved table, buffet, beverage, bottle of champagne and party favors. You must RSVP to get in on the buffet and reserved seating by calling Brandi or Shyrel at 251-974-1612 or stop by the restaurant to reserve your spot.

The restaurant will close at 1 a.m. but The Club, Live Bait’s onsite dance club will keep the party going until 3 a.m. It begins with the local band Whyte Caps playing until 12:30 p.m. followed by DJs Coonzy and Meachie blasting out tunes until 2:30 a.m. Join the part at The Club for just $15 which includes party favors, champagne at midnight and a countdown with a balloon drop.

The restaurant overlooking Perdido Pass will start a special New Year’s Eve menu at 4 p.m. including an array of its popular dishes. Entrees available will be rack of lamb, pork tournedos, seared filet, yellowfin tuna, bronzed Gulf grouper and free-range breast of chicken.

Start the meal off with either firecracker shrimp, duck pizza, tuna poke or mushroom ravioli. A house, Caesar or wedge salad will also be available. Top it all off with some sweet with baked Alaskan or chocolate avocado truffle.

Cobalt’s sister restaurant is also breaking out a special menu for the holiday. It will offer andouille-crusted grouper, filet mignon with lobster, grilled bone-in pork loin chop, bucatini with jumbo lump crabmeat, seared sea scallops or roasted Cornish Hen. Starters include royal red shrimp cocktail, fried green tomato stack, quail breast with bacon skewers, lump crab ravigoti or cornmeal-fried oysters.

Two soups available will be duck and andouille gumbo or sweet potato bisque. Salad offerings include a Cosmo’s house salad or a roasted red pepper Caesar.


Another sister restaurant to Cosmo’s and Cobalt, GT’s will be open New Year’s Eve and serving its regular menu. There will also be the regular daily special at GT’s.


Be sure to call ahead for reservations for a special four-course New Year’s Eve menu. There will also music until midnight.


Party all weekend on the key with the Perdido Key Sports Bar celebrating New Year’s Eve on Friday, Dec. 28 with the Whyte Caps taking the stage. College playoff games will take over for Dec. 29 and Dec. 30 will be a day of NFL football.

New Year’s DJ Michael Zavison will spin tunes from 9 p.m.-1 p.m. with a champagne toast at midnight. A free food buffet will open at 10 p.m.

Bring in 2019 with a dinner cruise on the Perdido Queen out of Hudson Marina. It’s a three-hour cruise featuring deluxe cuisine, live music, dancing, party favors at midnight champagne and fireworks. There will be a cash bar available and boarding begins at 9 p.m.

This will be the 35th year of Flora-Bama's Polar Dip in Orange Beach, Alabama.POLAR BEAR DIP

Shake out the cobwebs from a night of revelry with a refreshing dip in the Gulf of Mexico at noon on New Year’s Day. Party down at the Flora-Bama where those who fully submerge will get a free draft beer and a free New Year's lunch of ham, black-eyed peas, greens and cornbread.

In Gulf Shores, the Kiwanis Club of Gulf Shores in partnership with the City of Gulf Shores, Bill’s by the Beach and the Alabama Law Enforcement Torch Run present the Annual Polar Bear Dip at high noon at Gulf Place directly south of Bill’s at the Beach.



The seventh Annual Merry Market, a unique gift and arts and craft expo will be at the Orange Beach Event Center at the Wharf Dec. 7-8 from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. each day. Admission is free. More than 50 vendors with a variety of gifts, apparel, homemade products, local honey, toys and much more.

There will be moderate to heavy walking through the garden. There is food available to purchase at Bellingrath or feel free to pack a snack.   • December 21st from 10 a.m. to noon: “Restorative Yoga Class” - Restorative Yoga will ease you into relaxation and healing, whatever your age and ability. This adaptable yoga is relatively easy, effective and enjoyable. The class includes gentle warm-up movements, restorative postures, breath work and deep relaxation methods. No yoga experience is necessary. Please call to sign up. Class size is limited to 20. Class fee is $20. Arrive at 9:30 a.m. dressed comfortably and bring two pillows, two large towels and a medium size blanket.
