Holiday happenings on the Gulf Coast

December 9, 2019 – Orange Beach, AL – (OBA®) – Restaurants and local shops all along the Alabama-Florida Gulf Coast are making plans to spread holiday cheer and keep you fed during the Christmas holiday season.

FLORA-BAMA

The Flora-Bama will be having its usual full slate of events during December and through the big polar bear dip on Jan. 1. It starts on Dec. 14 when Santa will drop out of the sky to hear all the kids’ Christmas wishes. Face painting, crafts and hot beverages will start at 11 a.m. and Santa’s arrival is scheduled for noon.

On New Year’s Eve the Flora-Bama will have its annual blowout party and it’s usually a sellout. Ticket prices are $40 for 18-20-year-olds and $50 for those 21 and older through Dec. 24. After that prices are $45 and $55. Ole River Bar will have a Mullet Drop at midnight hosted by Big Earl aka Jack Robertson with party favors and munchies after midnight. Again, its expected to be a sellout with tickets $30 through Dec. 24 and $35 after that date.

Don’t forget to come back the next day, Jan. 1, for the annual Polar Bear Dip. If you take the plunge get a free beer and free greens and black-eyed peas.

COSMO’S ET AL

The Cosmo’s group of restaurants – Cosmo’s, Cobalt, Luna’s Eat and Drink, GTs on the Bay and BuzzCatz Coffee and Sweets – will closed Christmas Eve and Christmas day. All will be open New Year’s Eve and Day with Cosmo's and Cobalt running special menus for dinner New Year’ s Eve. Cobalt will be closed Dec. 16-26 for work on the front of the house.

TACKY JACKS

All four locations of Tacky Jacks, the Tacky Jacks Cigar Bar, Tacky Jacks Grill and Tavern in Orange Beach, Tacky Jacks in Gulf Shores and Tacky Jacks Fort Morgan, will be closed on Christmas Day and close Christmas Eve at 4 p.m. All will have normal hours on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. Fort Morgan’s downstairs Jack’s Bar will be open until 2 a.m. on New Year’s Eve.

AROUND THE ISLAND AND BEYOND

Brick and Spoon will be open Christmas Eve, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day but closed on Christmas Day. The restaurant will also be closed Dec. 16-20 for remodeling.

Pleasure Island Tiki Bar will be closed Christmas Eve and Christmas, be open on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day for football games.

Hangout Hospitality group’s four restaurants, the Hangout, Sunliner Diner, Picnic Beach and The Gulf will have different business hours during the holiday. The Hangout will close at 4 p.m. on Christmas Eve and closed Christmas Day and open regular hours New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. Sunliner Diner will both be open Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. The Gulf and Picnic Beach will only be closed on Christmas Day. The Hangout is still finalizing details for its New Year’s Eve celebration.

Meat Mart will be taking orders for pork crown roasts, prime rib roast bone-in or boneless, beef tenderloin roasts for Christmas. Check each week for specially priced packages.

Big Fish will be closed through Dec. 26 as it does every year and reopen on Dec. 27. They will be open regular hours on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.

Island Time Daiquiri Bar at The Wharf will be open Christmas Eve and reopen Christmas Day at noon. The bar will have regular hours on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day with all the football games available.

LuLu’s will have its iconic Noon Year’s Eve from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. with the big balloon drop at noon and lots of activities for the kids. The restaurant will be closed Christmas Eve, Christmas and New Year’s Day. The restaurant will have its annual Billy Claus celebration at 1 p.m. on Dec. 14 as well and from 4-6 p.m. on the same day host a lighted boat parade in the Waterway Village District along the Intracoastal Waterway.

Doc’s Seafood Shack and Oyster Bar on Canal Road in Orange Beach and Doc’s Seafood and Steak on beach road in Orange Beach and Hazel’s Nook in Gulf Shores will be open regular hours both Christmas and New Year’s and serving their regular menus. “We’re going to make someone’s day with hot food and a lovely smile,” Doc’s server Susan Anderson said.

Duck’s Diner will be open regular hours on Christmas Eve, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day but will be closed on Christmas.

De Soto’s Seafood Kitchen will be closed from Dec. 12-25 but open for their regular hours on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day when they will serve greens and black-eyed peas.

Bar 45 is closed Christmas Eve and Christmas but will be open on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. On New Year’s Eve Bar 45 will have a 20s-themed party.

Bubba’s Seafood House will be open on Christmas Day and offering a prime rib special along with its regular menu and some holiday drink specials. On New Year’s Even and New Year’s Day the restaurant will be open and serving its regular menu.

Bon Temps PoBoys and Specialty Meats will be selling fried turkeys on Christmas Eve. Call 251-981-3172 to place an order.

Mikee’s Seafood and The Steamer will close at 4 p.m. on both Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve and be closed Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.

Moe’s Original Bar-B-Que in Orange Beach is offering whole smoked hams or turkeys for $50 with pans of side dishes for either $16 to serve 10 or $30 to serve 20. Moe’s will also smoke your ham or turkey for $20.

Sandshaker at The Wharf will be open regular hours on Christmas Eve, 6 p.m.-2 a.m. on Christmas, 11 a.m.-2 a.m. New Year’s Eve with a band 9 p.m.-1 a.m. and open New Year’s 11 a.m.-2 a.m.

Downtown OWA will have several events through the holidays including brunch with Santa on Dec. 15 at 12:30 p.m., Breakfast with Santa on Dec. 14 and Dec. 22 at 8 a.m. and the nightly Ultimately Holiday Spectacular at the Legends In Concert through Dec. 31 except for Monday nights. Legends will be closed on Christmas Eve and Christmas.

The Gulf Coast Business Chamber’s 34th annual Lighted Boat Parade will be Dec. 13 leaving from Tacky Jacks in Gulf Shores streaming east past The Wharf where the judges stand will be. It travels around Bear Point, will go through Terry Cove and end up at Tacky Jacks in Orange Beach for the after-party.
