Foley to Vote on Workforce Campus Funding

Foley, Ala. – (OBA) – The Foley City Council will meet in a joint regular/work session at 4 p.m.  on Monday, March 4th in council chambers at city hall. During the meeting, the council will:

 

Have a public hearing to declare weeds on lot one of East of Laurel subdivision as a public nuisance. The council will also take up a resolution authorizing employees to enter the property to clean up the weeds.

 

Read a proclamation honoring Catholic Monsignor Hay’s 100th birthday. He is a resident of Live Oak in Foley.

 

Hear a presentation from the Alabama National Guard.

 

Present for public view the 2023 “Popular Annual Financial Report” for the fiscal year that ended on Sept. 30.

 

Have an introduction of an ordinance setting the axle limit for Kenny Stabler Avenue between South Juniper Street and East Pride Boulevard. The council will also set a date for a public hearing on the proposed ordinance.

 

Hear a request to waive fees for an application to the Board of Adjustment and Appeals for a setback variance to build an addition to Southside Baptist Church. The church is also requesting the city charge the minimum amount for a building permit.

 

Consider approving a roof moisture survey for the Justice Center by Amerson Roofing for $2,000.

 

Discuss a resolution to pay for construction and installation of new light poles and monthly pay for the Public Works complex.

 

Discuss declaring a truck and tractor in Parks and Recreation as surplus.

 

Consider purchasing a rope tower at Max Griffin Park for $11,847.

 

Discuss buying a golf cart for the Environmental Department to use between offices and around the park for $10,795.

 

Consider transferring $25,000 from capital purchases to the Nature Parks operating budget for a self-service kayak rental facility at Graham Creek Nature Preserve.

 

Consider accepting funds from the state legislature for the South Baldwin Regional Workforce Development Authority for $500,000 to help establish and operate the Gateway Workforce Education Career Campus in Foley.

 

Discuss adding $6,600 to add safety fencing for the Hamburg Building. Proposals were received from Cooper Fencing for $5,970 and Hagan Fencing for $5,979.

 

Hear a request for a new truck for the Sports Tourism Department for $45,000 to be used at athletic fields and the Coastal Alabama Farmer’s and Fishermen’s Market.

 

Consider accepting an Alabama Transportation Rehabilitation Improvement Program grant for $999,440 for intersection improvements at County Road 12 and State Route 59.

 

Consider accepting a $5 million Gulf of Mexico Energy Security Act grant to be used to expand the Graham Creek Nature Preserve.

 

Discuss buying two inflatable kayaks for the Nature Parks Department for prizes for events.

 

Discuss buying a new water truck for $63,615 for the Horticulture Department to replace a 2003 model that was a backup and totaled in an accident. The current truck is a 2012 model.

 

Consider entering into a training reimbursement agreement with Southwest Alabama Partnership for Training and Development for chainsaw training for 12 employees for $2,900.

 

Consider a resolution to appoint a voting delegate for the ALM annual business session.

 

Discuss a resolution approving the purchase of a Ford electric truck for the Public Works Department for $43,000. The vehicle was bid out to Moyer Ford in 2022 and is now available.

 

Consider allocating funds to create design, development and construction plans for $120,000 for the old Armory behind city hall.

 

Discuss paying for the design and construction services for the Event Center parking lot for $77,800.

 

Consider moving forward with the design and construction plans for paving and drainage improvements to gravel parking lots at the Foley Sports Tourism gravel parking lots for $85,000.

 

Discuss a resolution to approve a one-time donation of support to Foley High School ACT testing attendees.
