Gulf Shores Beach Rescue Lifeguards Are Back on Duty

Gulf Shores, Ala. – (OBA) – After completing the 2025 Spring United States Lifesaving Association (USLA) Academy, Gulf Shores Beach Rescue Lifeguards went back on official duty this past weekend.

During the off-season, lifeguards underwent rigorous training both in the classroom and in the water. New recruits completed an intensive 48-hour USLA training course, while returning lifeguards refreshed their skills with a 16-hour refresher course—all while training in the Gulf and local pools.

This year, the Gulf Shores Beach Rescue team includes:

33 lifeguards
4 beach patrols
5 Beach Safety Lieutenants
1 Beach Safety Chief

This highly trained team is prepared to handle any situation that may arise on our beaches.

While beachgoers are responsible for their own safety, the Gulf Shores lifeguards play a crucial role in recognizing hazardous conditions, advising swimmers, responding to emergencies, and providing medical care when needed. Their constant vigilance helps prevent drownings and injuries, making the beaches a safer place for everyone.

Beach Safety Tips:

Always swim near a staffed lifeguard tower.
Check conditions before entering the water.
Follow all posted beach safety flags and lifeguard instructions.
