Orange Beach, Ala. – (OBA) – The Pensacola and Perdido Bay Estuary Program (PPBEP) has launched a new Living Shoreline Assistance Program to help fight shoreline erosion and protect private property.
This program offers help to coastal landowners interested in using natural methods, like plants and oysters, to protect their shorelines. These “living shorelines” also help improve water quality and create habitats for wildlife.
The program will support projects in two phases. The first phase started January 1, 2025, and runs through December 31, 2025, focusing on the Perdido Bay Watershed.
The second phase begins August 1, 2025, and ends December 31, 2026. It will support shoreline projects in the Pensacola Bay Watershed.
Property owners can attend an upcoming open house to learn more, meet with PPBEP staff, and schedule a site visit. Details and dates can be found at the
Pensacola and Perdido Bay Estuary Website.
Additional workshops will be held closer to the second phase for residents near Pensacola Bay. These events will offer guidance on how to get involved and apply for the program.
Living shorelines are a proven way to reduce erosion while supporting the local environment. The Estuary Program says these projects can make a big difference in protecting waterfront property.
