New Walkways and Drainage Fixes Coming to Foley’s Pilgrim Street

New road and trail will connect to Beulah Park

The unpaved section of Pilgrim Street will be improved and extended.

Foley, Ala. – (OBA) – Pilgrim Street in Foley is set to get several upgrades, including paving, a walking trail, and better drainage.

The project will replace open ditches with covered culverts and pave sections of the street that are currently dirt. Mayor Ralph Hellmich said the improvements will also add new walkways for residents.

“This will be coming off of Michigan Avenue and going northward, and it will end up at Beulah Park, so it will complete a circuit in Beulah that allows people to have the sidewalk,” Hellmich said.

In addition to the street extension, the project also includes a walking trail through a wooded area near Beulah Park. The route of the walkway is planned to avoid the removal of large oaks in the area.

Once you get to the next street, it will convert to a trail that will go through these giant trees up to the park,” Hellmich said. “It’s a good project. The residents in Beulah have wanted this road for quite a while.”

The mayor said city crews have been working to improve drainage in the area for about two years.

“It's probably one of the major road projects we’ll be doing this year,” Hellmich said.
