Orange Beach Teachers praised for helping students achieve college-level success

Orange Beach, Ala. – (OBA) – Orange Beach City Schools recently recognized its Advanced Placement (AP) teachers for their dedication to academic excellence. During the October Board of Education meeting, educators were celebrated for guiding students through rigorous AP coursework, which prepares them for college-level academics.

The AP courses at Orange Beach High School include 13 subjects, challenging students to achieve high scores on exams that may result in college credit. Students who score three or higher on these exams can often receive college credit, with 134 qualifying scores this year.

In recognition of teachers' contributions, the Orange Beach Board of Education awarded $200 stipends for each score of three or higher. The total payout amounted to $26,800, underlining the value placed on both student and teacher achievements.

Principal Chris Shaw expressed pride in the teachers, saying their dedication is evident in students' exam success. "We couldn’t be more proud of what they’ve accomplished together," Shaw noted.

Superintendent Randy Wilkes emphasized the importance of the AP Program in preparing students for future opportunities. He highlighted that programs like AP are key to fostering a challenging academic environment that supports college readiness.

In addition, 22 students earned AP Scholar awards for scoring three or higher on at least three AP Exams. Three students achieved the AP Scholar with Honor designation, and two were recognized as AP Scholars with Distinction for their impressive scores across multiple exams.

Nine teachers were honored for their students’ achievements, including Drew Castillow, Madison Fields, Kristie Garner, and others. Orange Beach City Schools plans to continue supporting the AP Program to ensure ongoing success in fostering academic growth.
