Foley, Ala. – (OBA) – In Tuesday’s meeting, the Foley City Council has greenlighted the sale of a 2.19-acre property to a developer. The property, located at the intersection of Miflin Road and Koniar Way, is adjacent to the Foley Farmers’ and Fishermen’s Market. The decision was made in a specially convened meeting to meet a property transfer deadline.
The developer aims to construct a four-story Cobblestone hotel, featuring 73 rooms. The hotel will be situated at the northeast corner of Miflin Road and Koniar Way. Cobblestone Hotels, based in Wisconsin, currently has about 170 hotels either operational or under construction.
Another hotel, the Fairfield Inn with 107 rooms, is also in the construction phase. Once both hotels are operational, Foley will see a nearly 20% increase in its hotel room capacity.
The Foley Planning Commission had recommended the approval of the Cobblestone project back in April. Mayor Ralph Hellmich, who was not present at the council meeting, had earlier stated that the new hotel would contribute to economic growth and sports tourism in the area.
The Cobblestone hotel will collaborate with the city to enhance parking, lighting, and sidewalks. These improvements will benefit both hotel guests and visitors to the nearby Farmers’ and Fishermen’s Market.
