Orange Beach, Ala. – (OBA) – All the Orange Beach Canoe Trail sites that were damaged by Hurricane Sally are now repaired and open to the public. This reopening marks the culmination of an extensive restoration effort that included rebuilding piers and public access points that sustained significant damage during Hurricane Sally in 2020.
The repair contract, valued at $257,835, was awarded to Southern Justice Marine, with 90 percent of the cost reimbursed by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Southern Justice Marine completed the rebuilding of six piers and conducted fence repairs across ten different locations, including public access piers such as those at Jubilee Point and Washington Avenue. Oversight of the engineering and construction work was provided by Thompson Engineering, ensuring that the project adhered to quality standards.
The new piers have been constructed with improved flow-through decking, enhancing resilience against future weather events. Southern Justice Marine was recognized for its cooperation and dedicated effort throughout the project, which has successfully restored full access to Orange Beach’s cherished water trails.
The Orange Beach Canoe Trail consists of 12 designated sites spread across the shores of Wolf Bay, Bay La Launch, Arnica Bay, Bayou St. John, and Cotton Bayou. These sites provide prime opportunities for kayaking, canoeing, and enjoying the natural beauty of the area.
