GOMESA funds fuel tourism and conservation projects

GOMESA Projects Continue to Boost Coastal Alabama Economy

Orange Beach, Ala. – (OBA) – Alabama’s coastal communities are seeing significant improvements thanks to the Gulf of Mexico Energy Security Act (GOMESA). The Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (ADCNR) reported major project completions in 2024 and plans to maintain growth through 2025.

GOMESA funding helped Baldwin County areas like Orange Beach, Gulf Shores, the Gulf State Park and Fairhope. Upgrades included improved shorelines, new campgrounds, and enhanced beach facilities. Officials aim to protect vital habitats and boost ecotourism for residents and visitors along the Gulf Coast.

Baldwin County also received GOMESA backing for boat ramp renovations on County Road 6. Other major efforts include updates to Chocolatta Bay’s public launch, ensuring better access for local anglers. These improvements are set to continue in 2025.

According to ADCNR, new cabins on Lake Shelby and a rebuilt Gulf State Park Pier will attract more visitors. The park’s executive campground upgrades should enhance outdoor experiences while generating revenue for future projects.

Officials noted additional GOMESA projects in Gulf Shores and Fairhope. Plans include expanded public beach facilities, wetland preservation, and shoreline work at Fairhope Pier. These steps support healthy ecosystems, protect local wildlife, and strengthen coastal tourism in Baldwin County.

Leaders believe these investments will benefit future generations. They credit GOMESA for funding projects that keep beaches accessible and natural areas thriving. Officials expect more allocations in 2025, adding new enhancements to local amenities and preserving valuable coastal resources.

This report is based on information from Outdoor Alabama and public data on GOMESA-funded projects. For details on these improvements, visit the official ADCNR website. Community members are encouraged to stay informed and support conservation efforts across Baldwin County.
