Gulf Shores Drowning Claims Life of 49-Year-Old Man

Bystanders Attempt Rescue in Fatal Gulf Shores Drowning
Gulf Shores, Ala. – (OBA) – A 49-year-old man drowned Sunday in Gulf Shores, Alabama. First responders were called to the 1300 block of West Beach Boulevard near 12th Street at 3:14 p.m. after reports of a drowning.
Bystanders pulled the man from the water and began CPR before first responders arrived and took over. Despite their efforts, the man did not survive.
Red flags, indicating dangerous water conditions, were flying on Sunday. The victim was identified as a 49-year-old man from Memphis, Tennessee.

Orange Beach, Ala. – (OBA) – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Mobile, Alabama has issued an Enhanced Risk warning for severe weather across most of the Gulf Coast region late tonight into early Sunday morning. An intense squall line is expected to move through the area, bringing the potential for damaging winds exceeding 70 mph and the possibility of embedded tornadoes. Some storms may develop ahead of the main line, carrying a risk of tornadoes, including the potential for strong EF2+ tornadoes. The severe weather threat is anticipated between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m.

Orange Beach, Ala. – (OBA) – The Orange Beach Festival of Art has been named one of the top 20 art festivals in the country by USA Today. Now, the public can help it claim the top spot by voting online until Monday, February 17th.
For more than 50 years, the festival has showcased fine arts on Alabama’s Gulf Coast. Each year, over 100 artists, including painters, sculptors, photographers, jewelry makers, and glassblowers, are selected through a jury process. The event, held annually on the second weekend of March, draws more than 20,000 visitors from across the country.

Foley, Ala. – (OBA) – A Foley, Alabama man has been arrested on charges of sexually abusing a child under 12 years old after an investigation by the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO). Marcus Hunter Thomas, 36, was identified as the suspect in a case involving repeated abuse over the past year in Baldwin County.
Foley, Ala. – (OBA) – On January 3, 2025, Baldwin County Sheriff's deputies responded to a death in Foley, AL. Inside the home, they found drug paraphernalia and suspected drugs. The Baldwin County Drug Task Force and Coroner's Office were called to assist.
Foley, Ala. – (OBA) – Downtown Foley is set to bring a festive twist to its monthly Third Thursday event with a Mardi Gras-themed celebration on February 20, one week from today. From 5-7 p.m., participating local businesses will welcome visitors with special promotions, a lively atmosphere, and the chance to take part in the Mardi Gras Bingo Bonanza. Gulf Shores, Ala. – (OBA) – The FBI arrested a fifth suspect in connection to a fraudulent lottery scam.
Multiple agencies have been working to take suspects into custody since last Friday, when four arrests were made as part of Operation Jamaican Knights.
Dauphin Island, Ala. – (OBA) – Officials from the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (ADCNR) and the Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM) will host a public meeting about the Dauphin Island West End Beach Renourishment Project. The meeting will take place on March 6 at 6 p.m. at the Dauphin Island Community Center.
