Gulf Shores, Ala. – (OBA) – Imagine sitting in a room each day knowing that your actions could save someone's life or prevent a crime to a local resident. At other times you have to deal with the famous "my cats in a tree" call. Thanks to the local Gulf Shores Dispatchers, all of those calls are managed with the same care and details.
This is National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week. We honor those unseen heroes who take our calls and quickly ascertain the level of our emergency and dispatch the appropriate first responders.
According to the Gulf Shores Police Department, in 2023, Gulf Shores Dispatchers answered 38,190 phone calls.
We often recognize the Police and Fire/ Rescue officers that arrive on the scene, and we should. But this week we recognize the people who dispatch those first responders and provide them with the emergency details before they arrive on the scene.
As the Gulf Shores Police Department Stated: "They are the unsung heroes who rarely receive the recognition that they deserve. They are the calm voice on the end of the line managing chaos during the most stressful times. They are often the difference between life and death."
WE THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE TO OUR COMMUNITY!
