Orange Beach, Ala. – (OBA) – The Hitting the Note Scholarship Gala, benefitting the Joe Gilchrist Music Fund, is set to take place on Saturday, July 20th at the Perdido Beach Resort. This event’s purpose is to raise funds and provide scholarships for students in Baldwin and Escambia counties who are pursuing careers in music.


The evening promises a blend of fundraising and entertainment, featuring food, drinks, silent and live auction items, and performances by renowned songwriters Dean Dillon and Paul Overstreet. Attendees will have the opportunity to hear these artists perform their famous songs and share the stories behind their hits.

Dean Dillon
is a winner of the BMI ICon Award, a member of the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame and a 2020 Country Music Hall of Fame Inductee. His association with George Strait over the year has brought him to the icon status. He composed or co-wrote 76 songs for Strait, 11 of which went to #1. With 26 #1 hits total to his credit, he has received numerous other industry awards.

Paul Overstreet is one of the most prolific songwriters in country music history, crafting hits for artists such as Randy Travis, Blake Shelton, Tanya Tucker, Kenny Chesney, Keith Whitley, Allison Krauss, The Judd's, Jelly Roll, Michael Martin Murphy, George Jones, Pam Tillis, Kathy Mattea, Paul Davis, Marie Osmond, Ronnie Milsap and many more. Paul even crossed the seas and genres to have a smash #1 pop hit with Ronan Keating and his group Boy Zone. The pop group cut "When You Say Nothing At All" in Europe. Then, Ronan had a version in the classic movie, "Notting Hill". Many of Paul's songs have also appeared on "The Voice", "America's Got Talent", and many other shows. Paul also charted multiple #1 hits of his own with his first group SKO and as a solo artist with "Daddy's Come Around", "Ball and Chain", "Heroes" and on special event songs like "Won't Take Less Than Your Love" with the legendary Tanya Tucker and Paul Davis. Paul has recorded 13 studio albums and has got two more to come out in the near future.

Gulf Shores, Ala. – (OBA) – Conservation efforts on Alabama’s Gulf Coast have taken another major step forward with the protection of additional land on the Fort Morgan Peninsula. Thanks to a donation from the Alabama Coastal Heritage Trust, the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (ADCNR) will permanently preserve 13 ecologically sensitive lots, safeguarding critical habitats from future development.
