Songwriters Scholarship Gala

Orange Beach, Ala. – (OBA) – The Hitting the Note Scholarship Gala, benefitting the Joe Gilchrist Music Fund, is set to take place on Saturday, July 20th at the Perdido Beach Resort. This event’s purpose is to raise funds and provide scholarships for students in Baldwin and Escambia counties who are pursuing careers in music.


The evening promises a blend of fundraising and entertainment, featuring food, drinks, silent and live auction items, and performances by renowned songwriters Dean Dillon and Paul Overstreet. Attendees will have the opportunity to hear these artists perform their famous songs and share the stories behind their hits.

Dean Dillon
is a winner of the BMI ICon Award, a member of the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame and a 2020 Country Music Hall of Fame Inductee. His association with George Strait over the year has brought him to the icon status. He composed or co-wrote 76 songs for Strait, 11 of which went to #1. With 26 #1 hits total to his credit, he has received numerous other industry awards.

Paul Overstreet is one of the most prolific songwriters in country music history, crafting hits for artists such as Randy Travis, Blake Shelton, Tanya Tucker, Kenny Chesney, Keith Whitley, Allison Krauss, The Judd's, Jelly Roll, Michael Martin Murphy, George Jones, Pam Tillis, Kathy Mattea, Paul Davis, Marie Osmond, Ronnie Milsap and many more. Paul even crossed the seas and genres to have a smash #1 pop hit with Ronan Keating and his group Boy Zone. The pop group cut "When You Say Nothing At All" in Europe. Then, Ronan had a version in the classic movie, "Notting Hill". Many of Paul's songs have also appeared on "The Voice", "America's Got Talent", and many other shows. Paul also charted multiple #1 hits of his own with his first group SKO and as a solo artist with "Daddy's Come Around", "Ball and Chain", "Heroes" and on special event songs like "Won't Take Less Than Your Love" with the legendary Tanya Tucker and Paul Davis. Paul has recorded 13 studio albums and has got two more to come out in the near future.

New Traffic Signal Installation Closes East 22nd Avenue for the Day

Gulf Shores, Ala. – (OBA) – Roadwork is being done on East 22nd Avenue to install a new traffic signal. This project requires a partial road closure at the entrance of East 22nd Avenue from East 2nd Street. The closure started this morning and will last until the end of the day. Businesses can still be reached using East 23rd Avenue and East 21st Avenue.
National Lightning Safety Awareness Week

Orange Beach, Ala. – (OBA) – There are an estimated 23 million cloud-to-ground lightning flashes each year in the United States. During summer months the Alabama coast experiences rapidly formed thunderstorms. Warm temperatures allow the atmosphere to hold more humidity, and that humidity is a prerequisite for building clouds - creating conditions which may produce lightning.
Gulf Shores Teachers Wins Presidential Innovation Award From EPA

Gulf Shores, Ala. – (OBA) – The environment and conservation are part of the Gulf Shores coastal community. One of the teachers at Gulf Shores High Schools has received national recognition for her efforts. Krista Fleming was selected for the Presidential Innovation Award for Environmental Educators. She was one of only eight educators in the Country to receive the award. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, in partnership with the White House Council on Environmental Quality, recently announced the winners of the PIAEE on their website.
Foley Mandates Tree Planting in New Subdivisions

Foley, Ala. – (OBA) – More trees along Foley streets will make neighborhoods more attractive, walkable and safer under a proposal approved by the city Planning Commission. The commission voted to amend Foley’s subdivision regulations to require that trees be planted on street rights of way in subdivisions proposed for approval.

Fans can expect a blend of his signature hits and new music from his upcoming country album, "F-1 Trillion." The announcement coincides with the buzz surrounding the album's lead single, "I Had Some Help," featuring Morgan Wallen, which has topped the charts. "Pour Me a Drink," a collaboration with Blake Shelton, offers another glimpse into the sound of "F-1 Trillion," due for release on August 16th.

Orange Beach, Ala. – (OBA) – In preparation for the upcoming Perdido Islands Habitat Restoration Project, scientists from The Nature Conservancy, Dauphin Island Sea Lab, and CSA Ocean Sciences will begin moving small areas of seagrasses out of the construction zone in mid-July.

During these events, local medical and rescue personnel see an increase in heat related emergencies. One of the biggest killers in the world is cardiovascular disease and many do not know they have it until symptoms are triggered by something like elevated heat.
