Upcoming Foley City Council Decisions to Shape Growth

Foley, Ala. – (OBA) – The Foley Planning Commission will meet twice in February with a work session on Feb. 14 and a regular session on Feb. 21. Both meetings will be in council chambers at city hall at 4 p.m.
During the meeting, the commission will discuss:
- A request for an eight-month extension for the Southwood at Arbor Walk subdivision for 183 lots on 78.22 acres located north of County Road 12 and east of County Road 65. Staff will recommend approval.
- A request for a two-year extension for Roberts Cove located south of County Road 12 and east of the Foley Beach Express on 242 acres and plans for 247 lots. Staff will recommend approval.
- Approving a minor subdivision of lot one in the Gopher Fork subdivision located east of State Route 59 and south of Keller Road. Staff will recommend approval.
- Approving a resubdivision of lot five of the Foley Crossroads subdivision located in the southwest corner of the Foley Beach Express and County Road 20. Staff will recommend approval.
- A request from Crimson Land Development to rezone .55 acres in Wenzel Farms at 212 E. Michigan Avenue from business to residential multifamily. There will also be a public hearing for site plan approval for Wenzel Farm subdivision on 17.8 acres located south of Michigan Avenue and east of State Route 59. Staff will recommend approval.
- A modification to the planned unit development for Phillip and Chris Johnson Cottages located north of East Azalea Avenue and west of South Juniper Street on two acres. Staff will recommend approval.
- A zoning change request for the Fern Medical Office Complex on 12.18 acres located east of State Route 59 and North of East Berry Avenue. The applicant seeks to change from business and light industrial to a planned unit development. Staff will recommend approval.
- A request for a minor subdivision into two lots of Magnolia Walk on 103.17 acres located east of the Foley Beach Express and North of County Road 20. The smaller of the two lots at 2.38 acres is the site of a proposed Hyatt Studios hotel development. Staff will recommend approval.

Gulf Shores, Ala. – (OBA) – Conservation efforts on Alabama’s Gulf Coast have taken another major step forward with the protection of additional land on the Fort Morgan Peninsula. Thanks to a donation from the Alabama Coastal Heritage Trust, the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (ADCNR) will permanently preserve 13 ecologically sensitive lots, safeguarding critical habitats from future development.

Gulf Shores, Ala. – (OBA) – The City of Gulf Shores has been awarded the Silver-Level Bicycle Friendly Community designation by the League of American Bicyclists. This honor places Gulf Shores among a select group of U.S. cities committed to cycling.
The award highlights Gulf Shores’ efforts to create a safer, more connected place for cyclists of all ages and abilities. It also recognizes the city's major investments in bike trails and active transportation infrastructure.

Orange Beach, Ala. – (OBA) – In a move to preserve its natural beauty and maintain public safety, the City of Orange Beach has adopted new regulations restricting business activities on beaches, shorelines, and waterways. The ordinance, passed on April 15, 2025, amends the city’s Business License Code to prohibit most forms of commercial activity in these sensitive areas.
