Old Foley Armory Building Set for New Life as City Facility
Foley City Officials to Repurpose Former Armory Building for Municipal Use

Foley, Ala. - (OBA) - Foley city officials are exploring potential uses for a former Alabama National Guard armory building, which the city acquired after the Guard moved to a new facility. The building, situated on East Jessamine Avenue behind City Hall, could be repurposed for recreation activities, such as basketball or pickleball courts for the Parks and Recreation Department, according to Mayor Ralph Hellmich.
The space may also be used for temporary offices as the city expands. Additionally, the city is in the process of obtaining two inactivated artillery pieces that once belonged to the U.S. Army, with plans to place them near the veterans' memorial at Max Griffin Park.
The Foley guard unit moved to a new 30,540-square-foot facility in January 2023, which cost $13.4 million and is designed to serve as a staging area for services after disasters such as hurricanes.
