Residents Advised to Plan Around Holiday Closures and Collection Changes

Gulf Shores, Orange Beach, Foley Christmas and New Years Closures

Orange Beach, Ala. – (OBA) – Municipalities across South Baldwin County, including Orange Beach, Gulf Shores, and Foley, have announced their holiday schedules for Christmas and New Year's Day. While essential services such as police and fire departments will continue uninterrupted, administrative offices, libraries, and other facilities will observe holiday closures. Adjustments to garbage, recycling, and yard debris collection schedules have also been modified. See the changes below for each city.


Orange Beach City Offices Closed for Christmas and New Year's Day Holidays

During the 2024 Christmas holiday in Orange Beach, all non-essential city offices will be closed Monday-Wednesday, Dec. 23rd-25th. 


City offices will also be closed on Wednesday, Jan. 1st in observance of New Year’s Day. 


Trash and recycling routes have been adjusted. Tuesday’s routes for both weeks will run as normal. Starting on Wednesday, everything will run one day behind. Recycling will be picked up on Thursday and garbage routes will run on Saturday. Schedules will go back to normal during the Week of Jan. 6th.



City of Gulf Shores Announces Christmas and New Year's Holiday Closures

 

As you begin to make plans for the holidays, please take note of the following City of Gulf Shores closures:

 

Emergency Services:

The Gulf Shores Police Department, Gulf Shores Fire Rescue, and other emergency services will remain open as usual during both holiday periods to ensure public safety and health.


 

Administrative Offices:

  • Christmas: Closed Tuesday, Dec. 24, and Wednesday, Dec. 25. Reopening Thursday, Dec. 26, at 8 am
  • New Year's: Closed Tuesday, Dec. 31, and Wednesday, Jan. 1. Reopening Thursday, Jan. 2, at 8 am

 

Republic Services Garbage and Recycling Pickup:

  • Christmas: One day delay beginning Wednesday, Dec. 25. Wednesday's collection moves to Thursday, Dec. 26; Thursday's collection moves to Friday, Dec. 27.
  • New Year's: One day delay beginning Wednesday, Jan. 1. Wednesday's collection moves to Thursday, Jan. 2; Thursday's collection moves to Friday, Jan. 3.

 

Yard Debris/Bulky Items Pickup:

  • Christmas: No pickup Dec. 24-25. Tuesday and Wednesday's debris will be collected Monday, Dec. 23.
  • New Year's: No pickup Dec. 31-Jan. 1. Tuesday and Wednesday's debris will be collected Monday, Dec. 30.
  • Thursday and Friday routes will run as scheduled during both weeks.

 

Christmas Tree Recycling Program:

  • Live Christmas trees for sand dune restoration should be placed separately from regular debris piles.


Gulf Shores Public Library:

  • Christmas: Closed Dec. 24-25. Reopening Thursday, Dec. 26, at 10 am
  • New Year's: Closed Dec. 31-Jan. 1. Reopening Thursday, Jan. 2, at 10 am

 

Bodenhamer Recreation Center:

  • Christmas: Closed Dec. 24-25. Reopening Thursday, Dec. 26.
  • New Year's: Open Dec. 31 (5:30 am to 1 p.m.), closed Jan. 1. Reopening Thursday, Jan. 2.

 

Cultural Center:

  • Christmas: Closed Dec. 24-25. Reopening Thursday, Dec. 26.
  • New Year's: Closed Dec. 31-Jan. 1. Reopening Thursday, Jan. 2.

 

Tennis Center:

  • Christmas: George C. Meyer Tennis Center closed Dec. 24-25. Reopening Thursday, Dec. 26. 
  • New Year's: Closed Dec. 31-Jan. 1. Reopening Thursday, Jan. 2.
  • Outdoor tennis courts remain open for public use throughout both holiday periods.

 

Pickleball Courts:

  • The courts at the Gulf Shores Sportsplex will remain open for public use throughout both holiday periods.

 

Gulf Shores City Store:

  • Christmas: Closed Dec. 24-25. Reopening Thursday, Dec. 26, at 8 am 
  • New Year's: Closed Dec. 31-Jan. 1. Reopening Thursday, Jan. 2.

 

Gulf Shores Museum:

  • Christmas: Closed Dec. 24-25. Reopening Thursday, Dec. 26.
  • New Year's: Closed Dec. 31-Jan. 1. Reopening Thursday, Jan. 2.

City of Foley Announces Christmas and New Year's Holiday Closures


Most Foley city offices will be closed Monday through Wednesday, Dec. 23, 24 and 25, for the Christmas holiday.


City Hall and most municipal offices will be closed for the entire three-day period. Emergency services, such as police and fire, will operate as usual.


The Foley Public Library will be closed from Friday, Dec. 20 through Wednesday, Dec. 25.


The Graham Creek Nature Preserve Interpretive Center will be closed from Dec. 22 through Jan. 5. The center will reopen on Jan. 6. Trails and other outside features at the Graham Creek Preserve will remain open seven days a week from dawn until dusk.


The Holmes Medical Museum and Foley Railroad Museum will be open Saturday, Dec. 21. The museums will be closed Dec. 23 through Dec. 25. The museums will reopen on Dec. 26 for regular hours, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.


Foley Public Works offices will be closed Monday through Wednesday. 


Recyclable materials will not be collected Dec. 23 through 27. Recycling collection will resume Dec. 30.


Garbage on routes where collection is scheduled Tuesdays and Thursdays will be collected Thursday, Dec. 26. Collection on Wednesday and Friday routes will take place Friday, Dec. 27. The collection of limbs and yard debris will resume Dec. 26.
