Montgomery, Ala. – (OBA) – This may seem like an obvious answer, but there is actually no penalty if you lie to the police about the matter. A new law would attach penalties of up to $6,000 fine and/or a year in jail if you do not inform police officials of a concealed weapon when asked.
In 2022, the State of Alabama passed a law making it legal to conceal and carry a weapon on your person or vehicle, over opposition from the Alabama Sheriffs Association. They also made it illegal to lie to a law enforcement when asked if you have a weapon and the location of the object. BUT, they did not put any penalty on the law if you were found to be lying.
A new bill, HB58, has been introduced to the State Legislature and is scheduled to be on the agenda for the House Judiciary Committee.
The 2025 legislative session starts Tuesday at noon. Ivey will give her State of the State address Tuesday at 6 p.m. The governor said she will discuss efforts to combat crime and support police during her speech.
