Orange Beach, Ala. – (OBA) – A bald eagle was rescued at the Alabama Gulf State Park following a territorial dispute. The incident, which occurred on Thursday, was first reported by park visitors. Park maintenance employees were the first to respond to the scene where they found the eagle with an injured eye and a slight beak injury.
The Orange Beach Wildlife Center and Management group, known for their care of injured animals in Orange Beach, took charge of the situation. The eagle was transported to their facility for care. The initial examination led to treatment in an oxygen chamber and administration of pain medications, antibiotics, and eye drops.
On Friday, the eagle was examined and treated by the vet at Dykes Veterinary Clinic. The radiographs showed no broken bones, but there was still concern for potential internal trauma. The eagle's eye showed improvement compared to its initial condition.
Currently, the eagle is under the care of the wildlife center, where it is recovering. The team will continue to monitor its health and assess its ability to fly once the treatment is complete.
