Foley, Ala. – (OBA) – Work is set to begin in the morning, Thursday, Feb. 6th, to improve the intersection of Baldwin County 12 and Alabama Hwy. 59 in Foley.
At the start of the project, traffic on the east side of Baldwin County 12 will be detoured, so crews can widen the road and extend culverts. Once this phase is complete, the road will reopen. (See map below.)
Drivers should follow the marked detour using Foley Beach Express and Miflin Road-Baldwin County 20 to bypass the construction. Traffic signs will guide motorists, who should drive with caution and reduce speed in the work zone and detour areas. The detour will begin around 10 a.m. on Thursday and is expected to last 8 to 10 weeks.
Construction will continue with additional widening, concrete items and paving for the right turn lanes under typical lane closures.
The project includes adding right-turn lanes on Alabama 59 North and Alabama 59 South and adding left and right-turn lanes on Baldwin County 12. The project also includes culvert extensions and signal upgrades.
The $1.83 million-dollar project was awarded to McElhenney Construction Company, LLC. Work is scheduled to be completed in the fall of 2025.
The Alabama Department of Transportation is overseeing the project.
