December 1, 2016 - Gulf Shores, AL (GSA) - Rea Schuessler was one of thirty-five fellow PGA of America section qualifiers from throughout the United States to advance to the 78th KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship to be held May 25-28, 2017 at Trump National Golf Club, Washington D.C., in Potomac Falls, VA. Founded in 1937, the prestigious Senior PGA Championship is the most historic major championship in senior golf with a list of winners including Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, Gene Sarazen, Tom Watson, Lee Trevino, Hale Irwin, Gary Player, and Sam Snead. Schuessler will be one of only 156 players from throughout the country competing for the infamous Albert S. Bourne Trophy and title of 2017 Senior PGA Champion. The tournament will consist of four rounds of stroke play with the first two broadcast on the Golf Channel and the final two championship rounds aired on NBC. Specific air times will be determined as the event draws closer with tee times generally running from early morning through mid-afternoon.
The complex is projected to bring 1 million new visitors to Alabama a year and features an amusement park, a Marriott Hotel and is in close proximity to the new Foley Sports Complex.

October 12, 2016 - Orange Beach, AL (OBA) – The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) will begin the first phase of the SR 182 Median Improvements and Beautification project in Orange Beach from West Loop Road to the Cotton Bayou Beach Access on Monday, Oct. 17.
The project scope will include removing the center turn lane from the existing roadway and installing raised landscaped medians; implementing signalized median U-turns to reduce the number of intersection conflict points; creating designated pedestrian crosswalks at signalized intersections; and widening, restriping and resurfacing the one mile corridor. Landscaping of the medians will begin after the project is completed, which is scheduled for summer 2017, and will be performed by the City of Orange Beach.

Monday, October 10
Gulf Place closed to all vehicular traffic.
Tuesday, October 11
4:00 a.m. - Traffic is closed to public on Hwy 182 between W. 2nd Street & E. 1st Street; Traffic is closed to public on Hwy 59, south of 1st Avenue.
Thursday, October 13
4:00 a.m. - Traffic closure of Hwy 182 expands eastward to E. 2nd Street & westward to W. 3rd Street. Traffic flow east of Hwy 59 will convert to one-way-only routes.
Monday, October 17
7:00 a.m. - All normal traffic flow along Hwy 182 and Hwy 59 resumes.
Tuesday, October 18
7:00 a.m. - Gulf Place re-opens to the public.
All public beaches will remain open throughout the festival.
October 4, 2016 Gulf Shores, AL (GSA) - The City of Gulf Shores would like to make all residents and visitors aware that construction has begun on the much needed improvements to Clubhouse Drive at Highway 59. These improvements include widening Clubhouse Drive to 3 lanes from West 1st Street to 200’ east of Highway 59, new sidewalks and minor drainage improvements.
Construction is expected to take 4-6 weeks and will require temporarily closing Clubhouse Drive at Highway 59 for brief periods of time. “Your patience and understanding are greatly appreciated while we complete this project, stated Mark Acreman, City of Gulf Shores Public Works Director.”
