Orange Beach, Ala. – (OBA) – One week from today, the US Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 3-10 and the City of Orange Beach are hosting a Safe Boating class on May 4th at the Orange Beach Fire Department, located at 25855 John M. Snook Drive (near the post office).
The day-long course, starts at 8am and will wrap up around 3:30pm.
This course will provide essential boating education, from boat familiarization to handling emergencies. The curriculum also includes specific guidelines on the local law enforcement policies, area waterways, and the Intracoastal Waterway. Attendees will be served pizza for lunch, included with the course fee.
Underage participants must attend with an adult. The registration fee is $35, but first responders and military members can join for $15.
As a resident of the State of Alabama you must be licensed to operate a water vessel. According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s
website: “A written examination is required for applicants, except those who were 40 or older on April 28, 1994, or those who have successfully completed boating courses given by the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, the U.S. Power Squadron or the Alabama Marine Police "Boating Basics" course.” The certificate you receive upon completion of this Boating Safety Course must be taken to the DMV to get an update on your license.
