Argument Turns Deadly in South Foley Neighborhood

Foley Man Charged With Murder in Shooting Incident
Foley, Ala. – (OBA) – A fatal shooting occurred early September 8, 2024, in a neighborhood off County Road 20 in south Foley, Alabama. The Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of an argument that escalated into violence.
Authorities identified the shooter as Michael David Norton, who allegedly shot the victim after a physical altercation. The victim, who was shot once, did not survive the injury.
Norton has been charged with murder and was booked into the Baldwin County Jail at 5:33am this morning. Investigators confirmed this was an isolated incident, and there is no ongoing threat to the community.
The Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Foley Police Department in this incident. The investigation remains in its early stages, and no additional information has been released at this time.

Gulf Shores, Ala. – (OBA) – After putting off addressing an item from the council agenda on Feb. 10 dealing with unsightly trash cans along the city’s West Beach Boulevard, Gulf Shores will take another look at the issue in a work session on Feb. 17. The council will meet at 4 p.m. in council chambers at city hall.
Foley, Ala. – (OBA) – The Foley City Council will consider accepting a bid of $688,362 for an extension of Pilgrim Street from East Jackson Avenue to East Michigan Avenue during its combined regular/work session. The council will meet at 4 p.m. on Feb. 17 in council chambers at city hall.
Orange Beach, Ala. – (OBA) – The Orange Beach Police Department's K-9 teams recently excelled at the USPCA Region 1 Regional Certification in Lakeland, Florida. Officer Giles secured first place overall in narcotics detection with a perfect score of 200 out of 200. Officer McVickers earned fourth place with 199.67 points, and Officer Clere took sixth place with 197.33 points. In explosives detection, Officer Dixon achieved third place overall, scoring 287.33 out of 300.
Dauphin Island, Ala. – (OBA) – The Billy Goat Hole Boat Ramp on Dauphin Island will temporarily close for renovations starting one week from today, Sunday, February 23rd, at 6pm. The project, led by the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources' Marine Resources Division (MRD), aims to enhance safety and accessibility for boaters and visitors.
Orange Beach, Ala. – (OBA) – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Mobile, Alabama has issued an Enhanced Risk warning for severe weather across most of the Gulf Coast region late tonight into early Sunday morning. An intense squall line is expected to move through the area, bringing the potential for damaging winds exceeding 70 mph and the possibility of embedded tornadoes. Some storms may develop ahead of the main line, carrying a risk of tornadoes, including the potential for strong EF2+ tornadoes. The severe weather threat is anticipated between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m.
