Coastal Arts Center of Orange Beach

Orange Beach, Ala. – (OBA) – The Coastal Arts Center of Orange Beach is gearing up for an artistic start to 2025 with a diverse array of classes and events for art enthusiasts of all ages and skill levels. From glassblowing to watercolor painting, the center offers something for everyone looking to explore their creative side.


Spring Term Registration Now Open


The center's popular Coastal Arts Student Academy (CASA) program is accepting registrations for its spring term, set to begin on January 20, 2025. This semester-long program is designed for students in grades 3-6 and offers three weekly class options:

  • Tuesdays: 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM
  • Wednesdays: 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM or 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM

CASA participants will enjoy a well-rounded artistic experience, including projects in the Hot Shop with glass artists, sessions in the Clay Studio with a full-time potter, and lessons in drawing, painting, and creative thinking in the Art Studio.


Gallery Walks with Marlene Johnt


Art enthusiasts can join Marlene Johnt, author of "A Retired Art Teacher Tells All," for engaging gallery walks on the following dates:


  • Thursday, January 16, 2025
  • Thursday, February 6, 2025
  • Thursday, February 20, 2025


These free, hour-long sessions run from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM and offer insights into various art mediums through fun and informative conversations.  Please arrive by 1:45 PM.  Registration required using the form

Watercolor Workshops


Dianne Murray will be leading several watercolor classes:


  • Introduction to Watercolor: A beginner-friendly class covering the fundamentals of watercolor techniques.
  • Mastering Watercolors: A four-session master class on Thursdays in January (9, 16, 23, 30) from 1-4 PM, priced at $150.
  • Intermediate Watercolor: Four Monday sessions in February (3, 10, 17, 24) from 1-4 PM, also priced at $150.
  • Advanced Watercolor: Four Thursday sessions in February (6, 13, 20, 27) from 1-4 PM, priced at $150.

Flameworking Glass: The Basics

For those interested in working with molten glass, the center offers flameworking classes most Fridays year-round from 9 AM to noon. The fee is $110, and classes are limited to six students.

Gulf Shores, Ala. – (OBA) – After 15 years of dedicated service, Gulf Shores Police Chief Ed Delmore has announced his retirement, effective immediately. Mayor Robert Craft informed the city council of Chief Delmore’s intent during a meeting on Monday, February 17, 2025. Chief Delmore will stay on the force as a special investigator until the end of his term, which ends in November.

During this period, residents can purchase essential severe weather preparedness items without paying the state's 4% sales tax. In some areas, local taxes will also be waived, allowing shoppers to save up to 10% on eligible items.
