Point Clear Creek Bridge Project Receives Major Funding Boost

New Bridge

Point Clear, Ala. – (OBA) – The Baldwin County Commission secured a financial boost for local infrastructure. A Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) Grant from the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) will fund the construction of a new pedestrian bridge. This bridge will be a standalone structure located on the Eastern Shore Trail near the Grand Hotel in Point Clear.

The primary goal of this project is to provide a safe and efficient way for pedestrians to cross Point Clear Creek. The bridge is part of a larger effort to enhance the 22-mile Eastern Shore Trail, which is a popular route for runners, walkers, and casual cyclists stretching from Spanish Fort to the Weeks Bay Reserve at Fish River. The trail features a mix of sidewalks, asphalt paths, elevated boardwalks, and low bridges.

The total estimated cost for the construction of the new bridge is $910,000. The TAP Grant will cover 80% of these costs, significantly reducing the financial burden on local resources. The Baldwin County Commission formally accepted the grant at their December 19th meeting, marking the beginning of the design phase. The project is expected to be completed by 2025, filling a crucial gap in the trail.

The new bridge is anticipated to meet the growing needs of the community, providing a safe and scenic route for all who use the Eastern Shore Trail.
