Gulf Shores, Ala. – (OBA) – Tuesday morning, the Orange Beach Wildlife Center received a call about a bird stuck in a tree in Gulf Shores. The bird was about 30–40 feet high, up in the tree. Gulf Shores Fire Rescue quickly responded and found the bird alive.
Firefighters cut the bird out of the tree and brought it to the Orange Beach Wildlife facility. The heron had rope around its beak, causing it to get stuck in the tree.
The Wildlife Center’s staff discovered something lodged in the heron's throat attached to the rope. After some maneuvering, they removed a large, smelly chicken bone from the heron’s throat.
The heron is in critical condition and is very weak, dehydrated, and thin. The Wildlife Center is giving it oxygen, fluids, and rest until it stabilizes.
The Orange Beach Wildlife Center gave a huge thank you to Gulf Shores Surf Rescue for helping this bird get a second chance.
