National Rescue Dog Day: Adopt, Foster, Volunteer
Orange Beach, Ala. – (OBA) – According to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), about 3.3 million dogs enter shelters every year. These abandoned and abused animals, known as rescue dogs, all need a forever home. Their potential is limitless.
Today, May 20th, National Rescue Dog Day celebrates the joy and benefits of adopting a rescue dog. This day highlights the special bond between people and their four-legged friends, especially those without a place to call home.
Rescue dogs often overcome extreme obstacles. They provide comfort, security, and friendship as family pets. With training, they can assist people with disabilities and offer comfort to the elderly.
These dogs become essential helpers, acting as eyes, ears, or legs for their owners. They also offer unwavering friendship, no matter their size, color, or breed.
Dogs have a unique way of connecting with people, often nuzzling, fetching, or begging their way into our hearts.
Get involved in the lives of rescue dogs. There are various ways to share puppy love.
- Shelters always need donations. Financial donations are always welcome. Most shelters have a list of constant needs, such as blankets, bleach, toys, treats, and leashes.
- If there is room in your life for a rescue dog, consider adoption and giving one a forever home.
- Consider fostering. Many dogs abandoned in shelters require some medical care or rehabilitation in a home setting before an adoption can take place.
- Volunteer at a local shelter. Taking dogs for walks, grooming, and giving them plenty of affection improves their socialization.

Gulf Shores, Ala. – (OBA) – After 15 years of dedicated service, Gulf Shores Police Chief Ed Delmore has announced his retirement, effective immediately. Mayor Robert Craft informed the city council of Chief Delmore’s intent during a meeting on Monday, February 17, 2025. Chief Delmore will stay on the force as a special investigator until the end of his term, which ends in November.

Orange Beach, Ala. – (OBA) – Kris Anderson, a senior partner of Yates Anderson law firm in Orange Beach, apologized to the Mayor and City Council saying he may have "jumped the gun" with the lawsuit. However, Mayor Tony Kennon accused Anderson of trying to act like "Superman," being a "despicable individual," and painting the community in a racist light.

Cole, a Class A Superintendent, previously led Braelinn Golf Club in Peachtree City, Georgia, and has extensive experience in course restoration and southeastern agronomic practices.
Orange Beach, Ala. – (OBA) – Alabama's 14th annual Severe Weather Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday is set for Friday, February 21, through Sunday, February 23, 2025. During this period, residents can purchase essential severe weather preparedness items without paying the state's 4% sales tax. In some areas, local taxes will also be waived, allowing shoppers to save up to 10% on eligible items.
Foley, Ala. – (OBA) – The Foley Planning Commission will review several requests for approvals of subdivisions located in the city limits and the city’s planning jurisdiction including a 258-lot development located east of County Road 65 and south of Dairy Lane. Staff will recommend approval.
