Orange Beach, Ala. – (OBA) – The Blessing of the Fleet is a centuries-old tradition that began in Mediterranean fishing communities, where local clergy would bless fishing vessels to ensure a safe and bountiful season. This practice was brought to the United States by Catholic immigrants and has been embraced by various coastal communities. One of the earliest recorded Blessing of the Fleet ceremonies in the U.S. took place in Biloxi, Mississippi, in 1929.
Zeke's Landing Marina in Orange Beach, Alabama, will continue this tradition by hosting its Annual Blessing of the Fleet on the Saturday of Easter Weekend, April 19, at 3 PM. The event aims to ensure a safe and prosperous season for all vessels and fishermen.
The celebration will take place at the Mo Fishin’ Bar, located at 26619 Perdido Beach Blvd, Orange Beach. Attendees can enjoy live music by the Brent Varner Band, along with food and drinks. The event is free and open to the public.
Zeke's Landing Marina is renowned for offering various fishing charters, including inshore bay fishing, deep-sea fishing, private charters, and shared expense trips. They also provide pleasure cruises seasonally.
