First Orange Beach Sea Turtle Nest hatches

Orange Beach, Ala. - (OBA) - The first Orange Beach Sea Turtle nest hatched last night around 11:30pm. The hatch was called in and volunteers showed up and found the baby sea turtles wandering around the beach and in the dunes. With the help of other beach goers they rounded the babies up and helped them to the water.


Brent & Madge Williams found one at 6am this morning and helped it to the water. (See photos below.)

Clocks spring forward by one hour at 2 a.m. local time. This shift results in later sunrise and sunset times. On this date, sunrise is at 7:07 a.m., and sunset is at 6:55 p.m., providing approximately 11 hours and 48 minutes of daylight.

Gulf Shores, Ala. – (OBA) – Gulf Shores Middle School has been selected as one of 16 schools in Alabama to join Cohort 18 of the A+ College Ready College and Career Readiness Program. This statewide initiative, in partnership with the Alabama State Department of Education, aims to prepare students for success in college, careers, and life by expanding access to Advanced Placement (AP) and other challenging courses for grades 6-12. Participating schools receive training, incentives, supplies, curricular materials, student study sessions, AP exam subsidies, and ongoing support. Gulf Shores Middle School will participate in this program through May 2028.

Foley, Ala. – (OBA) – New temporary traffic lights will be installed to help improve the busy intersection at South Hickory Street and West Michigan Avenue. The Foley City Council decided on Monday, Feb. 17, to update an agreement to design these new lights. This is part of a joint project between the city and Baldwin County to add turn lanes at the intersection.

Gulf Shores, Ala. – (OBA) – After 15 years of dedicated service, Gulf Shores Police Chief Ed Delmore has announced his retirement, effective immediately. Mayor Robert Craft informed the city council of Chief Delmore’s intent during a meeting on Monday, February 17, 2025. Chief Delmore will stay on the force as a special investigator until the end of his term, which ends in November.

Orange Beach, Ala. – (OBA) – Kris Anderson, a senior partner of Yates Anderson law firm in Orange Beach, apologized to the Mayor and City Council saying he may have "jumped the gun" with the lawsuit. However, Mayor Tony Kennon accused Anderson of trying to act like "Superman," being a "despicable individual," and painting the community in a racist light.
