Foley, Ala. – (OBA) – Residents of Foley will have the chance to support their local public safety departments in the upcoming "Battle of the Badges" blood drive. The event is organized by LifeSouth and will feature a friendly competition between the Foley Police Department and the Foley Fire Department.
The blood drive will take place over two days, with donations being accepted at the Foley Police Department on Friday, June 28, and at the Foley Fire Department on Saturday, June 29. On both days, the event will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Donors can choose to give whole blood, platelets, plasma, or double red cells. Each donor will receive a free cholesterol screening and a $20 e-gift card as a thank-you for their contribution.
During their appointment, donors will select whether they want their donation to count towards the police or fire department. LifeSouth will tally the results, and the department with the most donations will receive a certificate, earning bragging rights for next year.
Donors must be at least 16 years old to participate. Sixteen-year-olds need written parental permission to donate blood. Seventeen-year-olds and older do not need parental permission.
