Foley, Ala. – (OBA) – Foley Main Street held its October meeting at the Hotel Magnolia Restaurant, showcasing recent achievements and future plans for downtown revitalization. The meeting, attended by incoming President Wes Abrams, Mayor Ralph Hellmich, and Executive Director Darrelyn Dunmore, highlighted the program's four pillars.
Abrams introduced "Third Thursdays," a new downtown event starting November 21st, featuring tastings, art, and special deals. A physical turkey hunt will be part of the November 21st event, with six hidden turkeys in various businesses.
The holiday season will kick off with the Downtown Foley Christmas Fest on December 7th, following the Christmas Parade. The event will include caroling by the Foley High School Choir and holiday specials from local businesses.
Downtown Foley has seen significant growth, with 16 new businesses added this year and two more expected soon. The Downtown Foley Arts & Entertainment District and the new "Cat Alley Walkway" will officially open on November 21st.
Foley Main Street, in collaboration with Main Street Alabama, will award five $1,000 marketing grants to district businesses by January 2025. They will also launch a Pitch Contest with a $10,000 grant opportunity for eligible businesses.
The Design pillar includes the installation of 11 way-finding signs by the end of December, featuring QR codes linking to Google Maps.
Mayor Hellmich shared updates on various capital projects, including a larger comfort station in Heritage Park and plans for a WWII Museum Display. He also discussed the Downtown Foley oak tree lighting initiative and a project to outline building tops with lights.
