Potential Alabama State Record Blue Marlin

Orange Beach, Ala. – (OBA) –  At about 9:30am this morning a potential record Blue Marlin was weighed in at The Mobile Big Game Fishing Club’s docks. The Blue Marlin was caught yesterday on the Best Trait boat out of Orange Beach by angler Scooter Anderson, from Houston Texas. The boat captain is Chris Mowad. The Blue Marlin weighed in at 1,145.6 pounds and it took Scooter about 2 hours to land the record fish on 130 lb test line. According to Capt. Mowad they were about 125 miles offshore.

The previous Alabama State Record was 851.9 lbs. and was caught by Ginger Myers from Louisiana on July 5, 2020. Ginger was fishing on the Fleur de Lis boat. The Blue Marlin was also weighed in at the Mobile Bay Big Game docks.

Blue marlin are one of the most popular big game fish to target. They are known for their size, speed, and fighting ability. Blue marlin can be found in tropical and subtropical waters around the world. Blue marlins that are over 1,000 pounds are called Grander Marlins.

According to the International Game Fish Association… The World Record Blue Marlin caught in the Atlantic Blue marlin was 1,402.2 caught off of Brazil in 1992. The world record Blue marlin caught in the Pacific weighed in at 1,376 out of Hawaii in 1982.

If the Blue Marlin caught today holds it’s 34.48% larger than the previous Alabama state record.
