Orange Beach Looks to Boost Public Safety

Sportsplex, Arts Funding Will Come Before the Council

Orange Beach, Ala. – (OBA) – During the Feb. 6 joint work regular/work session, the city council will address putting video surveillance equipment in three city buildings, including the next finance wing at city hall.

 

On the regular meeting agenda, the council will consider the equipment for the recreation center for the Expect Excellence program for $34,856. Since the item is on the regular agenda, the council can vote on Feb. 6.

 

During the work session, the council will hear about a request for equipment for the Finance Department for $26,303 and for the Coastal Arts Center in Orange Beach for $45,210. These items will be introduced in the work session and voted on at a future council meeting.

 

The council will meet at 5 p.m. starting with the regular session immediately followed by the work session at city hall in council chambers.

 

During the regular session, the council will also:

 

  • Consider approving vendor checks in the amount of $3.1 million.

 

  • Read a proclamation declaring Feb. 17 as Arbor Day in Orange Beach.

 

  • Discuss awarding the bid for Sportsplex turf maintenance to Limitless Service for $94,491.

 

  • Consider awarding the bid for a glamping concessionaire to Timberline Glamping. There were no mentions of the cost in the agenda. The city is looking to add a glamping feature at the Rosemary Dunes trailhead.

 

  • Discuss approving a retail liquor license for China Dragon in the Rouses shopping.

 

  • Consider approval of a special events liquor license for The Wharf Restaurant Group for a “Black and White Night” event March 15-16.

 

  • Discuss purchasing six treadmills for the Adult Fitness Center from Life Fitness for $55,986.

 

  • Consider authorizing the purchase of five elliptical trainers for the Adult Fitness Center from Life Fitness for $31,913.

 

  • Discuss A four sub-award amendment in Restore Act funding for the north sewer force main upgrade from south of the Intracoastal Waterway up to County Road 12. The grant award is more than $6 million.

 

  • Consider a contract for law enforcement services with the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Department for 2024.

 

  • Consider a resolution to buy three vehicles for the Public Works Department, two for Landscaping and one for Street. They are a Ford F-150 Super Crew four-by-four pickup and two Ford F-150 Super Cab four-by-four pickups for a total of $118,407.

 

  • Discuss buying two vehicles for Public Works including a Ford Transit cargo van and a Ford F-150 Regular Cab pickup both for the street department for $87,124.

 

  • Consider a resolution to buy a message board for the police department from All Traffic Solutions for $37,154.

 

  • Discuss an agreement with the Mystics of Pleasure Mardi Gras Krewe for the joint use of Mardi Gras floats.

 

  • Consider authorizing a contract with Severance Security Services for a public safety training initiative for human trafficking awareness.

 

  • Discuss allowing political candidates free use of the Orange Beach Event Center and the Orange Beach Community Center for free, open-to-the-public forums.

 

  • Consider a resolution allowing the Orange Beach Garden Club to promote its 36th Annual Game Day and Salad Luncheon at the Orange Beach Senior Center with ticket sales and support. The event will be Feb. 21 at the Orange Beach Event Center.

 

  • Discuss appointing members to the city’s Legislative Review Committee to review actions by the Alabama Legislature and Congress.

  • Consider postponing a public hearing to Feb. 20 for The Wharf Landing to rezone land east of the Foley Beach Express and north of the Intracoastal Waterway. The applicant wants to change from general business to a planned unit development for a mixed-use project on the site of the former Bama Bayou. The first suggested date was Feb. 6.

 

During the work session, the council will discuss:

 

  • A resolution for the execution of license agreements with the school board for athletic facilities, parking lots and gymnasiums.

 

  • Authorizing the use of city staff, equipment and facilities for the high school Sailing Club for the 2023-24 school year.

 

  • Awarding the bid for the Beaver Creek Sidewalk repairs after they are opened on Feb. 15.

 

  • A contract with Edward Terry Stefankiewicz for coaching soccer.

 

  • A resolution adopting Title VI civil rights policy in compliance with the Department of Homeland Security and FEMA regulations for accepting grants and other money.

 

  • A resolution to purchase lighting for softball fields at the Sportsplex from Musco Sports Lighting for $169,900.

  • Have public hearings and first readings on ordinances amending the commercial vessel portion of the city code and a second one to modify the business license rate for commercial vessels.

Chief Delmore will stay on the force as a special investigator until the end of his term, which ends in November.
