Orange Beach, Ala. – (OBA) – Anthony Hood, a dedicated employee of Orange Beach Public Works, has been honored with the Coastal Alabama Business Chamber's January 2025 Island Spirit Award. The award, sponsored by Beachball Properties, recognizes individuals who significantly contribute to the community's quality of life.
Hood was surprised with the award during a ceremony attended by the Island Spirit Committee, Public Works staff, city officials, and his family at the Orange Beach Public Works facility. The recognition highlights his exceptional work ethic and positive impact on the community.
According to his nomination letter, Hood operates the city's vacuum truck and is known for his cheerful attitude and initiative. He often goes beyond his job description, even volunteering on weekends to address issues like debris or roadkill. "Too many people would act as if they did not see," the letter noted.
Hood’s contributions extend beyond his job duties. He assists with retiring damaged American flags and organizes potluck dinners at the community center. His efforts include setting up tables, arranging speakers, and promoting events. His supervisor praised his consistent dedication over nearly five years of service.
The Island Spirit Award has been a tradition since the mid-1980s, celebrating individuals who enhance life in Coastal Alabama. Hood joins a distinguished group of past recipients who have made lasting contributions to the region.
