SBRMC Expansion to Boost Local Care

Foley, Ala. – (OBA) – South Baldwin Regional Medical Center has been recognized as a 2024 Top 100 Rural & Community Hospital by The Chartis Center for Rural Health.

South Baldwin is the only hospital recognized in Baldwin County and one of only three hospitals listed for all of Alabama.

The annual Top 100 award program recognizes outstanding performance among the nation’s rural hospitals based on the results of the Chartis Rural Hospital Performance INDEX®.

“During an era of profound uncertainty for rural healthcare, the Top 100 rural hospitals continue to provide a unique lens through which we can identify innovation and inspiration for how to deliver high-quality care to increasingly vulnerable populations,” a SBRMC statement said.

To determine the 2024 list, Chartis used the Chartis Rural Hospital Strength INDEX, which assesses performance in inpatient market share, outpatient market share, quality, outcomes, patient perspective, cost, charge and finance.

The SBRMC is currently undergoing a $200-million expansion that will increase the facility’s capacity to 142 beds.

The new five-story patient tower will add more than 200,000 square feet of space to the main medical campus in Foley. The new facility will house a dedicated outpatient entrance with new surgery and endoscopy suites, a women’s and children’s unit with expanded capacity, additional medical/surgical capacity with doubled ICU capacity and a shell for future growth.

The expansion is scheduled to be completed by early 2025.
