Orange Beach, Ala. – (OBA) – Two weeks from today, on Sunday, March 9th, we will move our clocks ahead one hour as we go back on to Daylight Saving Time (DST). Clocks spring forward by one hour at 2 a.m. local time. This shift results in later sunrise and sunset times. On this date, sunrise is at 7:07 a.m., and sunset is at 6:55 p.m., providing approximately 11 hours and 48 minutes of daylight.
The practice of observing DST has been a topic of national discussion. In 2022, the U.S. Senate passed the Sunshine Protection Act, aiming to make DST permanent; however, the legislation stalled in the House of Representatives. President Donald Trump has expressed support for ending the biannual time changes, describing them as inconvenient and costly. If such a change were implemented, the nation would no longer change the clock by one hour twice a year.
As of now, DST in the United States is scheduled to begin on March 9, 2025, and end on November 2, 2025. Any future alterations to this schedule would require new legislation passed by Congress and signed into law by the President.
