Perdido Key, Fla. – (OBA) – Just in time for hurricane season, Florida residents can buy disaster preparedness supplies without paying sales tax during the 2024 Disaster Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday. This tax holiday, signed into law by Gov. Ron DeSantis, runs from June 1 to June 14.
A second tax-free period will occur from August 24 to September 6. The Florida Department of Revenue has provided information and promotional materials for consumers and businesses on their website.
Qualifying items include portable generators, tarpaulins, smoke detectors, fire extinguishers, and non-electric food storage coolers. The tax exemption does not apply to rentals, repairs, or sales in theme parks, entertainment complexes, public lodging establishments, or airports.
