Orange Beach, Ala. – (OBA) – The multiphase rebuild of the Perdido Pass Seawall Park project is making significant progress. With Phase 1 nearing completion and expected to open any day and work on Phase 2 is already underway. According to Orange Beach Coastal Resources Manager Phillip West, the overall project is approximately 40% complete.
The restoration initiative for the park commenced on May 30, 2023, following the Memorial Day weekend. The project was necessitated by the extensive damage caused by Hurricane Sally in September 2020. The City Council awarded the repair contract to MD Thomas Construction, LLC, with a budget of $695,597.05. A portion of the funding comes from FEMA. The first phase focused on the west side of the park and its parking lot.
Phillip West told us that the "new" components in the park will include an additional 200 feet of boardwalk on the northern end of the seawall. Additionally, the parking area under the bridge will be repaved and striped, aiming to bring more order and efficiency to the parking situation. These enhancements are part of the park's broader strategy to improve its appeal and functionality for both locals and tourists.
Anglers and park goers alike, are eagerly awaiting the completion of the repairs, which promises to rejuvenate one of the area's most loved public spaces.
The entire project is expected to wrap up by Thanksgiving or early December.
