Free event helps seniors recognize and avoid common scams

Gulf Shores, Ala. – (OBA) – Seniors in Baldwin County will soon have the opportunity to learn how to protect themselves from fraud at an upcoming free Senior Scam Awareness Class hosted by the Baldwin County Extension Office. The event will take place at the Auburn Veterinary Specialists-Gulf Shores Building, located at 21541 County Road 8 in Gulf Shores.


The class is scheduled for tomorrow, Friday, March 7, at 10 a.m. and will focus on educating seniors about the latest scams targeting older adults. With fraud schemes becoming more sophisticated—ranging from phone and email scams to in-person deception—this session will provide essential information on how to recognize, avoid, and report suspicious activities.


Experts in consumer protection and law enforcement will be on hand to discuss real-life examples, warning signs to watch for, and strategies for keeping personal information safe. Attendees will also have the opportunity to ask questions and share experiences to help raise awareness within the community.


The Baldwin County Extension Office encourages seniors, caregivers, and concerned residents to take advantage of this informative session. Staying informed is the first step in preventing financial fraud and exploitation.

Foley, Ala. – (OBA) – Pilgrim Street in Foley is set to get several upgrades, including paving, a walking trail, and better drainage. The project will replace open ditches with covered culverts and pave sections of the street that are currently dirt. Mayor Ralph Hellmich said the improvements will also add new walkways for residents.
