Fort Morgan, Ala. – (OBA) – Alabama Audubon is set to host its annual Coastal Bird Banding event at the historic Fort Morgan State Historic Site on the Alabama Gulf Coast. This event offers the public a rare opportunity to observe migratory birds up close after their journey across the Gulf of Mexico.
The Coastal Bird Banding event runs April 14th through 19th, 2025, and welcomes visitors at no charge. Gates open daily at 7am and close at 3pm. On the final day of the even, April 19, the activities end at noon.
Fort Morgan's strategic location makes it an ideal spot for witnessing spring migrations, often featuring sightings of rare bird species. The banding station is one of the few in the U.S. open to the public, allowing attendees to see birds up close and learn about their migration patterns. Parking at Fort Morgan Historic Site costs $5.
In addition to bird banding, the event will include bird and nature walks, informational tables from allied organizations, and other birding activities. Visitors are encouraged to bring cameras to capture close-up views of the birds and interact with researchers.
