Foley Council Meeting to Address City Projects and Safety Ordinances

Foley, Ala. – (OBA) – At its July 1 meeting, the Foley City Council will consider two additional agreements from Volkert for design services related to the building of an airport terminal, adding $238,660 in design costs for the project.

 

Other items on the agenda will address establishing safety rules and procedures in city parks and the forestry mowing of 40 acres the city recently purchased at the corner of U.S. 98 and North Hickory Street.

 

The council will meet on July 1 at 4 p.m. in council chambers at city hall in a joint work, regular session. During the joint regular/work session, the council will discuss:


  • The introduction and first reading of an ordinance establishing policies and procedures for public safety in city parks.
  • The second reading of an ordinance to declare a city-owned parcel in the Industrial Park west of the National Guard armory as surplus and order its sale.
  • A second reading of an ordinance to amend the zoning ordinance to change or delete verbiage in the sign, parking and planned developments. 
  • Approving the forestry mowing of 40 acres at the northwest corner of U.S. 98 and North Hickory Street and paying GreenCo $54,999 for the work.
  • Approving the lease of an airport hangar in the end units on the north apron at the Foley airport and establishing a rate.
  • Giving the OK for staff to apply for a Highway Safety Grant to make pedestrian improvements in Foley.
  • Waiving board of adjustment and appeals $150 fee for Holiness Church for a new sign that is out of compliance.
  • Approving the hire of Beyond Measure Surveying for lot 3-B in the Industrial Park unit 7.
  • Transferring $27,000 from library personnel to the operations budget due to increased demand for Hoopla and digital services.
  • Approval of a proposal from Capstone Engineering Group for the design of pedestrian improvements along East Peachtree for $283,875.
  • Accepting an unbudgeted donation of $9,822 for the police to buy office furniture.
  • Transferring $25,000 to the airport for a lightning suppression system “to reduce or eliminate damage caused to airport equipment due to lightning strikes.”
  • Approving a Never Forget memorial along the Perry Wilbourne Antique Rose Trail by the Daughters of the American Revolution.
  • Appointing Rick Blackwell, Rachael Gebhart, Jessica Gosa, Brett Taylor and Beverly Wenzel to the Library Advisory Committee.
  • Authorizing the Magnolia River stream cleanup project to U.S. 98 for $397,650 paid to GreenCo.
  • Approving the use of West Laurel Avenue, North Alston Street and West Jessamine Avenue right of way by Colt Foley to use picnic tables and a covered outdoor kitchen at 118 W. Laurel Avenue.
  • Approving change order number two on the Juniper Street South extension project to solve a water main conflict for $57,787 raising the total cost of the project to $4.59 million.
  • Hiring WAS Design to oversee the addition of three pickleball courts to the ongoing project north for the Coastal Alabama Farmer’s and Fishermen’s Market and paying for them with impact fees of $15,900.
  • Increasing the budget by $300,000 for the East Jessamine extension project for paving, striping and brick columns.
  • Authorizing the mayor to sign a letter of intent to buy a knuckle-boom truck for $229,156 with a delivery date of October.
  • Declaring bicycles as surplus and donating them to the Calvary Chapel Fellowship Dream Center in Foley.
  • Transferring budgeted funds from the fire ad valorem fund to operations.

Chief Delmore will stay on the force as a special investigator until the end of his term, which ends in November.
