Foley, Ala. – (OBA) – On August 23, 2023, residents of the Mills Community in west Foley, Alabama, voted in favor of annexation into the city of Foley. The referendum was approved by a vote of 43 to 17, according to complete but unofficial returns. A total of 60 people voted. 71.67% voted in favor of joining Foley. 28.33% voted against. Approximately 39.25% of the eligible 170 people reside in the area voted. All registered voters in the area proposed for annexation were eligible to cast ballots in the referendum.
The community will officially become part of the city of Foley once the vote is certified by Baldwin County Probate Judge Harry D'Olive Jr.
Part of the Mills Community is already within the Foley corporate limits. The Alabama Legislature approved a bill in May, allowing residents in the remaining area of the community to vote on the issue of annexation into the city.
The proposed annexation includes about 105 lots.
