Foley Plans Neighborhood Streetscape Meetings

Public Input Sought for Foley Downtown Street Enhancements

Foley will hold a series of focus groups to discuss improvements along streets in the downtown area. West Myrtle Avenue is one of the streets to be discussed during the meeting.

Foley, Ala. – (OBA) – As part of an effort to beautify and improve streets in Foley, planners and city officials will meet with residents to discuss improvements in several downtown locations.


Foley is conducting a streetscape study for the downtown area. As part of the study, the city will conduct street focus groups to get public input on the design and appearance of several streets in the area.


Residents and business owners on those streets are asked to come to one of a series of meetings to discuss their opinions of their streets and what they would like to see in those areas.


The city will hold six focus groups on Tuesday, Aug. 6, and Wednesday, Aug. 7, at the Foley Civic Center to discuss specific streets.


The schedule for the 45-minute meetings will be:


Tuesday, Aug. 6th:

  • West Myrtle Avenue, 3:30 p.m. - 4:15 p.m.
  • West Verbena Avenue, 4:30 p.m. - 5:15 p.m.
  • South Chicago Street, from West Laurel Avenue to Myrtle Street, 5:30 p.m. - 6:15 p.m.


Wednesday, Aug. 7th:

  • Alston Street, from Jessamine South to Verbena, 10:30 a.m. - 11:15 a.m.
  • West Jessamine Avenue, 11:30 a.m. - 12:15 p.m.
  • West Orange Avenue, 12:30 p.m. - 1:15 p.m.


The city will also conduct an Open House on Friday, Aug. 9 starting at 10:30 a.m. to discuss and share the results of the focus groups.

OBPD K-9s Impress with High Scores in Certification

Orange Beach, Ala. – (OBA) – The Orange Beach Police Department's K-9 teams recently excelled at the USPCA Region 1 Regional Certification in Lakeland, Florida. Officer Giles secured first place overall in narcotics detection with a perfect score of 200 out of 200. Officer McVickers earned fourth place with 199.67 points, and Officer Clere took sixth place with 197.33 points. In explosives detection, Officer Dixon achieved third place overall, scoring 287.33 out of 300.
