Orange Beach, Ala. – (OBA) – The Maidens of Mischief, Pleasure Island's latest women-only Mardi Gras krewe, made a memorable entrance at the Orange Beach parade last month. Formed in the summer, the krewe showcased their float and vibrant spirit just in time for Fat Tuesday's celebrations. Starting with 29 members, many of whom were previously part of the Swans, the group is set to expand to 50 after spring social events. A notable gathering is planned for March 10 from 3 to 5pm at Live Bait, welcoming all interested women.
One of the krewe's founders shared the inspiration behind their formation, highlighting a shared desire to create their unique Mardi Gras experience, rooted in a sense of mischief that perfectly matched their name. The group's ethos is encapsulated in the belief that all members are queens, eschewing traditional roles like crowning a queen or hosting a ball. Instead, they enjoy formal gatherings at the Monde Balle in Robertsdale, embracing the motto "Let the good times roll."
Adopting a krewe model similar to those in Mobile and New Orleans, the Maidens value privacy, especially when interacting with the media. Their community involvement is already notable, having hosted a successful silent auction in collaboration with the Gulf Coast Athletic Club's golf tournament and setting a record for tips collected at the National Shrimp Fest.
Looking ahead, the Maidens are participating in an event benefiting The Lighthouse and are open to further charitable endeavors. Despite the possibility of expanding beyond 50 members, the current group has formed a close-knit bond, with one founder noting the transition from strangers to a family-like unit. The Maidens of Mischief represent a diverse and enthusiastic addition to Pleasure Island's Mardi Gras tradition, promising a future of fun and community engagement.
