Foley, Ala. – (OBA) – On Tuesday, November 19th, a high-speed chase involving a stolen vehicle came to an end in Baldwin County when the suspect was apprehended by a K9 unit from the Baldwin County Sheriff's Office. The incident began at around 2:30 p.m. when deputies from the Street Crimes Unit located a reported stolen car near Foley.
The deputies spotted the vehicle traveling on Charolais Road near County Road 65 and attempted to initiate a traffic stop. However, the driver, identified as Jabari Maliek Stots, refused to pull over, triggering a high-speed pursuit. The chase covered areas around Foley and Magnolia Springs, eventually reaching a field south of Magnolia Springs before returning to Hartung Road.
The pursuit reportedly reached speeds of over 100 mph and lasted approximately 12 minutes. The chase ended when a deputy used a pursuit intervention technique to stop the vehicle. Stots then fled the car on foot, carrying a pistol.
Deputies gave multiple commands for Stots to drop the firearm, which he ignored. A K9 unit was deployed, and during the attempt to apprehend Stots, he swung his arm towards the dog. In response, a deputy fired a shot, but it did not strike Stots. The K9 unit managed to bring Stots to the ground, and after resisting further, he was taken into custody.
Stots received medical attention for injuries caused by the K9. He faces multiple charges, including resisting arrest, receiving stolen property, felony fleeing, and a pre-existing felony warrant for failure to appear. Authorities have stated that more charges may be filed as the investigation continues.
