Orange Beach Fire Rescue to Host Babysitting Safety Course for Middle Schoolers

One-day course teaches safety and CPR basics

Orange Beach, Ala. – (OBA) – Orange Beach Fire Rescue is offering a Safe Sitter course for students entering 6th through 8th grade.


The class will take place at the Orange Beach Fire Station, located at 25855 John Snook Drive (behind Orange Beach City Hall).


The course is scheduled for May 17, 2025, and will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The $75 fee is non-refundable and includes lunch.


Firefighters will teach emergency skills such as CPR and choking rescue for infants, children, and adults. The course also includes general first aid.


Students will learn how to manage child behavior, diaper babies, and understand child development at different stages. The class also covers life and business skills to help young people safely care for children and run a babysitting business.


Each student will receive a certification card, a sandwich lunch, a backpack with supplies, and a reference guide to take home.

Safe Sitter is a national program that helps prepare young teens to be responsible and stay safe while babysitting or home alone.

Two Killed in Foley Scooter Crash on County Road 65

Foley, Ala. – (OBA) – On April 13, 2025, at approximately 9:00 p.m., officers responded to a collision on County Road 65, south of Airport Road in Foley, involving a pickup truck and an electric scooter. A preliminary investigation determined that a 2006 Chevy Colorado pickup truck fatally struck two individuals who were riding the scooter.

Bubba’s Site May Become a Mini Golf Course in Orange Beach

Orange Beach, Ala. – (OBA) – Loop Center Properties will go before the Orange Beach Planning Commission on April 14 to request permission to combine five lots along Perdido Beach Boulevard in Orange Beach to build Orange Beach Mini Golf. The company is also seeking site plan approval for the facility.

A ‘Darlin’ Life: Gulf Shores K9 Officer Hangs Up Her Handcuffs

Gulf Shores, Ala. – (OBA) – The days of sniffing out crime have come to an end for an nine-year-old K9 cop in Gulf Shores. K9 Darlin retired this week after eight years in service. During her time as a narcotic's detector, she helped sniff out 159 pounds of methamphetamine, 171 pounds of cocaine, 93.5 pounds of marijuana and 5.5 pounds of heroin.
